At the guest house, the design story began by highlighting concrete as the main character of the building. The design team utilized concrete to create a sense of bare minimalism, beyond its primary function for strength and unique look. The house naturally embraces its raw, unadorned quality, with the rough texture of concrete contrasting with the lush greenery and natural light surrounding it.
This mix of solid, man-made concrete and the soft, organic environment makes the guest house feel both sturdy and welcoming. It achieves a sense of timelessness and permanence, which is an essential aspect of minimalist architecture.
The design flows smoothly from the outside to the inside, creating an abundant indoor-outdoor connection with large glass windows, it offers amazing views that change with the light throughout the day. These expansive glass surfaces enhance the minimalist aesthetic by emphasizing openness and simplicity, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Inside the house, concrete continues to play a big role. The architects used polished concrete floors, which feel cool underfoot and look sleek and modern. Concrete walls add an industrial touch that is softened by warm wood accents and carefully chosen furniture and art. These elements work together to create a warm and subdued ambiance, making the space feel cozy and inviting. The minimalist approach ensures that every piece of furniture and decor is purposeful, contributing to the overall sense of calm and order.
The minimalist use of concrete extends to the thoughtful detailing throughout the house. Each element, from the placement of windows to the textures of materials, ensuring that guests have a peaceful and comfortable stay, with each space feeling both functional and serene. The subtle interplay of light and shadow on the concrete surfaces adds to the tranquility.
Upon completion, pedro gaxiola estudio and hermann tamayo arquitectos shows how modern architecture can combine style and function. By using concrete in creative and minimalist ways and focusing on harmony with the surroundings, the architects have made a space that is both beautiful and practical. This design not only offers guests an inspiring place to stay but also demonstrates the elegance of minimalist architecture, where simplicity and material honesty create a profound connection between the built environment and nature.
