On the topic of "Beyond Bauhaus", this exhibition invites designers from various profession and countries, to analyze their design works and rethinking the Bauhaus spirit from. With the aim to reproduce the Bauhaus social experiment, they decode the basic elements from the most daily perspective of "Night Market", hoping to brings the visitors walking into the Bauhaus thinking space, inspire the visitors with a new angle to observe their daily life. Bauhaus has created a universal design language, and making design not just an abstract word, but more like a spoken language with logic.
Through the exhibition, they hope the visitors would understand that, “perhaps you don’t know what Bauhaus is, but we are living with Bauhaus.” Bauhaus is not an utopia that is unreachable but it does exist in our life and happening around the world. Even after 100 years, most school still follows Bauhaus education system, like workshops and industry-academic cooperation; In Industrial manufacturing, they apply modularization; In design thinking, we can see the philosophy of functionalism, less is more approach. In the modern age where information explodes every minute, the contemporary designers will see the needs for society, and combine arts, designs and technologies to create the objects which can pay tributes to the society in an efficient way, and achieve the goal of benefiting the human and pushing the development of the world. At the same time, to encourage students to play with experimental spirit, and team cooperation in different fields.
Our adviser Layton Reid also participate in this exhibition, he's showing the following 3 projects which have all been previously shortlisted for best experimental architect award at the world architecture festival and highly commended in the evolo awards. Ariel City ,Osteon Cumulus and Vertical City.
The projects all consider the response that architecture can make to self sustaining buildings that create their own atmospheric energy supply ,and which touch the earth lightly ,and are constructed of ocean waste plastics ,rapid prototyping techniques and recycled materials. These buildings are unique to their locations in western China, Shanghai, and Caracas ,and propose new mixed, social, spatial and economic dynamics , to create thriving communities for potentially nomadic urban populations.
