Niklas Galler is co-founder and design director of the Berlin-based design agency nr21 DESIGN.
Together with an interdisciplinary team of creative people, he works on a wide spectrum of projects for international clients. The scope of their work encompasses the comprehensive development process, from the design of concrete product platforms to strategical product design with consideration of the user needs and the client’s portfolio.
From 2013-2014 he was a guest professor at weissensee - academy of art Berlin.
nr21 DESIGN strives for an extensive and interdisciplinary approach to design, which prevents a separation of a product from its natural surroundings. Feasibility creates the framework to our ideation. nr21 DESIGN not only translates and communicates relevant trends in science and technology but also includes design trends, identity and efficiency. As a result they constantly push the boundaries of the established norm and possibility.
nr 21 DESIGN has been awarded with more than 60 design prizes, including iF Product Design Award, Red Dot Award, German Design Award, Good Design Award, Eurobike Award, A' Design Award, Green Good Design Award, ISPO Brandnew Award, Observeur Du Design Award, Plus X Award, Japanese Design Foundation Gold Prize, and more.

VODAFONE SMART N9
In close collaboration with Vodafone we developed the Smart N9, Vodafone’s design driven mass market device. The Smart N9 offers great performance with sophisticated style. This is achieved by combining a sleek 18:9 form factor with 2.5D sculpted glass, micro-textures, metal finishes and diamond-cut details. The aluminum side keys add a premium distinctiveness. An optic finger print sensor adds convenience and simplicity. This device comes in two colour variants, Silver Aluminum and Black Titanium. Along with the device itself, we worked on a variety of accessories together with the Vodafone design team.

KINSTALK QIN JIAN S1 & DOCK
With Shu Zi Jia Yuan Technology – a fast growing start-up company based in Beijing, China – we designed Qin Jian S1 – a new device approach for internet communication. Qin Jian S1 is a product designed to bridge generational gaps and to connect those living apart. With its puristic design, made from high-quality materials, S1 defines a totally new device archetype.
While most modern smart devices are made for mobile use, Qin Jian S1 acts as an integral interior element for semi-mobile home-based communication. Qin Jian S1, with its 160° camera, affords effortless communication from voice to video calls; sharing lasting moments with loved ones. The tailor-made OS „Kinstalk“ not only interacts with the iconic round footprint of the lens, it achieves a symbiosis between UI and hardware design. -
SENNHEISER MOMENTUM 2 WIRELESS
Sennheiser’s Momentum 2 now comes with Bluetooth technology for wireless enjoyment of your favorite music.
We maintained a lightweight appearance, consistent with the existing product line-up, despite packing the headphones with cutting edge wireless technology. The project was developed in close collaboration with Sennheiser. -
CARL ZEISS VR ONE
Virtual reality for everyone – with Carl Zeiss AG in Germany, we developed the conceptual design as well as the final industrial design of their latest virtual reality device – the Zeiss VR One. The innovative concept combines the performance of your favorite smartphone with leading-edge optical design from Zeiss. A wide range of popular smartphones are compatible (4.7-5.2 inch display size), due to the customized phone trays. You can simply install the VR One App, slide your smartphone in and enjoy virtual reality content of your choice.

SENNHEISER HDVD 800 & HDVA 600
Perfect sound – the outstanding features of Sennheiser’s HDVD 800 (digital) and HDVA 600 (analog) include their balanced sound image, maximum precision and impressive spatiality. The high value of the sound is emphasized through an exquisite design: both the housing and the potentiometer control as well as the rotary switch for selecting the source are made of anodized aluminum, while the front panel of the housing and the controls are milled from solid material. Designed and manufactured in Germany, this high-end, solid-state amplifier harmonizes perfectly and delivers an ultimate acoustic performance, when paired with audiophile headphones.
Awarded with iF Design Award and Red Dot Design Award. -
SENNHEISER IE 800
At the heart of the IE 800 are several small but invaluable breakthroughs, like the perfected extra wide band transducer system. It is currently the smallest extra wide-band sound transducer available in dynamic ear canal phones and promises distortion-free sound, capable of performing even at high sound pressure levels. With dampened two chamber absorbers, ceramic housing and ergonomic, oval-shaped ear adaptors, the IE 800 is loaded with numerous ground-breaking innovations. Designed, developed and produced in Germany, it not only boasts innovative technology but also features an attractive, yet modern and elegant design.

BMW CRYANO GT
This topology-optimized lightweight Gran Turismo is a cooperation project with the BMW Group-Exterior Design in Munich. It explores new, functional aesthetics based on future manufacturing standards and use of high-tech materials. By using mathematical algorithms to calculate the impact external forces have on the structure, material reduction can be maximized. The polymer frame architecture reinforced by carbon nano tubes (CNTs) is achieved with Rapid Manufacturing techniques and covered by flexible shell surfaces – the interplay of organic and polygonal surfaces as formal and functional theme.

NR21 C-BOT
C-Bot is a climbing robot used for building diagnosis, in order to analyze the building fabric and detect inner damages with ultrasonic sensors. An innovative bionic nano material imitates the gecko’s foot sole structure and guarantees a secure hold on materials like glass, concrete or metals. The complex leg architecture, with integrated active and passive joints, qualifies the C-Bot to navigate any kind of edge or spherical surface – also vertical walls. The C-Bot project is the result of a collaboration with the Max-Planck-Institut and won the Gold Prize (2007) of the Japan Design Foundation in Osaka/Japan.
